Moody Winter Session with The Dixons in Cincinnati, Ohio

This was my very first session of 2024 😊 and it was so great getting to swing it open with The Dixons whom I have had the pleasure of photographing quite a few times now! Including the pregnancy announcement for their daughter here, the maternity session, a newborn session, and a few family shoots inbetween it all 😊

Since we’ve done so many shoots together now, I really wanted to break out the normal comfort zone and really embrace the colors and vibes of a dreary winter day walking along a beach in East Fork Lake just outside Batavia, Ohio. I have done other sessions here before – one of them with the Hansen Family in the summer time on the very same beach! But never have I done a full blown winter session before.

People often think winter can’t bring magical photos. But honestly, I think it’s a great opportunity to go for something that’s different. Something unexpected and something that is cozy and inviting in a way photos in warmer months just can’t give. We didn’t get lucky with any snow, but honestly, the drizzly rain we did get brought out a pop in all the brown textured grasses and brought wind on the beach that gave motion and movement. Even if the shoot didn’t last long, we made some magic and truly, I love these guys so much for trusting the process and vision I had. Helps that they’re all super cute too :P
