My Own Photography Story

an eighteen year journey

“what would you attempt to do if you knew you would not fail?”

How it all Started

In 2006, my grandparents gifted me a simple little Kodak digital camera they found on a black friday sale for $50. It was super terrible quality even then, but it didn’t stop me from falling madly in love with photography.

I graduated HS in 2007. And as a graduation present, my parents gifted me an upgrade to a Sony DSC-H7 point n shoot camera for me to take on my first overseas trip to England. Where I was actually going to live with my then boyfriend (now husband <3) for 2 whole months.

That trip with that camera in 2007 completely changed my life and officially planted me on the path of becoming a photographer.

Fast forward to 2009. I was 19, skipped going to college, officially bought my first DSLR - the Canon 50d - on a Best Buy Credit card and officially started my LLC to specialize in portrait photography.

I spent the next few years really experimenting a ton, finding what I loved, what I didn’t, what I was good at, and really pushed myself each year to grow.

2012 is when I really started to find a groove, found myself photographing friends weddings and really fell in love with all of it! Weddings became the primary focus of my business between then and all the way up to 2022.

As time went on, I found myself photographing weddings all over the country! And by the end of 2022, I had photographed over 200 weddings & elopements from the east coast to the west coast, was published in magazines, and found more success than I ever dreamed of when I first started this business in my parents basement at 19 years old.

Towards the last few years of me photographing weddings, I started to photograph more and more families as well offering more and more session types to my business while still photographing weddings full time. Ironically, most of the folks hiring me were past wedding couples hiring me over again!

As I became a mom myself in 2016 to my amazing Leo, I slowly started to feel a shift towards documenting families as my heart was now in a whole different place. Because what mattered to me was changing. And what filled me up was changing. So to stay true to myself, I had to really listen to that and lean into change and eventually retire from weddings altogether.

So, 2022 and 2023 became huge pivot years for me as I officially stopped booking weddings, finished up all remaining contracts, and shifted all my bookings and attention to family & portrait photography full time.

And so now in 2024, you’ll find me as a full time family photographer taking all this knowledge, experience, and growth into every single session. Applying all the tricks of the trade I’ve learned through the hustle and bustle of weddings and applying it to a more documentary style approach for family photography :)

below you’ll find some selfies and some of my own personal photos I’ve taken in recent years <3
